Gail Pittaway

Gail Pittaway is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Media Arts, at the Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) in Hamilton, New Zealand.

 

After completing an M.A. Hons.(1st class), she was a secondary teacher of Drama, English and Classical Studies. Later she tutored in English Literature at the Universities of Victoria (Wellington) and Waikato. After establishing the School of Communication at Wintec she returned to the classroom and lecture theatre and has been instrumental in establishing a Creative Writing stream for the Bachelor of Media Arts, at Wintec. More recently she has worked to develop both an Honours Stream and a Master of Arts endorsement in Communication for Wintec, with successful supervisions in publishing and writing to date.

 

A member of the AAWP executive committee for seven years, her research interests include writing poetry, reading and reviewing contemporary fiction, and writing for radio. She has edited several anthologies of student writing, and a historical collection of writings associated with gardens, Writers in the gardens as well as regularly writing papers and articles for TEXT and Great writing journals.
